• Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

    Parents, managers and coaches often have questions about Bellefonte Little League. This FAQ should help answer many of the questions that take place both before and during each season to make sure the kids have an enjoyable season.

     

    Player Eligibility.

    Ages- Bellefonte Little League serves Little League ages between 4 and 13 years of age. Unsure what Little League age your child is? Please see the League Age Calculator. league_age_calculator

     

    League Boundaries- Bellefonte Little League boundaries follows Bellefonte Area School District. If your child goes to Bellefonte Elementary or Benner Elementary your child should be in the Bellefonte Little League boundary. If your child attends schools with-in our league boundaries (Bellefonte Elementary and Middle Schools, Benner Elementary, St. John Catholic School, and Centre County Christian Academy) your child is eligible to register with the Bellefonte Little League.

     

    *13 year olds our 50/70 division is comprised of both Bellefonte and Nittany Valley Little Leagues. If you live with in the entire Bellefonte Area School District and your child is Little League 13, they are eligible to play in our 50/70 Division.

    Location

    The Bellefonte Little League is located at 735 North Penn Street, Bellefonte PA 16823. Two fields are currently located here, Field one (Webster Field) is the lower field, or first field you see as you turn onto North Penn Street. Field two will be the upper field or the second field you see as you come to the end of North Penn Street. The concession stand is located between the two fields. The concession stand building holds the concession stand, a storage room, the meeting or board room, two restrooms and a maintenance garage.

     

    Most registrations and meetings are held in the meeting/board room the door to this room is located next to the two restrooms on the back side of the concession stand.

     

    Volunteers

    Bellefonte Little League is an all volunteer organization. Without the help of parents and volunteers, there is no Bellefonte Little League.

     

    What can I volunteer for in Bellefonte Little League? You can volunteer as a manager, coach, team parent, umpire, field maintenance and or league official. You can assist with Opening Day, Fundraisers, Tag Day or Picture Day. You can help with registration. If you have medical expertise, you help us update our Safety Plans. If you’re familiar with websites and website management, we can use you. If you have knowledge of Landscaping or have a green thumb we can use you. If you have construction background we have some projects for you! If you have a financial background or good with numbers we could use you on the FOC or Audit committee. You can volunteer for many of our committees, ask a member of the board about any committee openings. Let us know on the Volunteer Form how you think your special skills or talents can help the League. Remember, no volunteer contribution is too small.

    Player Registration Spring and Summer ball.

    When: Registration for the league’s Spring and Summer program is normally held on or about the second week of January for a period of 3-4 days. A late registration is held typically a week or two after the regular registration. The league normally will register any player 4-13 after the two scheduled registrations until evaluations. You will have to contact the league to set up a scheduled meeting.

     

    Location: Bellefonte Area Little League board room located at the fields in the concession stand building.

     

    Registration fees: Base on last years fees TBall (5-6 years old) Registration fee $40 per player.

    PeeWee (coach pitch) 6-8 years old Registration fee $40 per player. Minor and Major (kid pitch) 8-12-year-olds Registration fee $50 per player. Intermediate 13-year-olds Registration fee $50 per player. The fee may be different from year to year depending on operational cost of the league.

     

    The league currently has NO group discount for multiple players.

     

    What if we can not afford the registration fee? Bellefonte Little League makes a great effort to NEVER turn away any child that wishes to play little league baseball. We take these cases base by base working with all families that have the need for help. If you have any concerns or questions about registration fees. Please don't hesitate to contact the league or one of the league officials during the registration dates. It is our belief that ALL children should experience the tradition that is Bellefonte Little League. 

     

    What do I need for registration? You will need to bring 1. Cash or a check to pay the registration fee. 2. Birth certificate of all the children you are registering to play ball. 3. Official/Certified school enrollment record dated prior to October 1, 2017, from Benner or Bellefonte Elementary, Bellefonte Middle School, Centre County Christian Academy, St. John Catholic School and any other school within the league's boundary.

     

    What do I need if my Child does not attend a school within the league's boundary but we live within the league? You will need to supply proof of residency Follow the link for information of what type of paperwork is acceptable

     

    Player Registration Fall ball. Registration for the league’s Fall ball program is normally held the end of July beginning of August. An open registration day is typically one Saturday sometime between July and August. The league normally will register any player that is interested in fall ball after the scheduled registrations until a week or two before games are scheduled. You will have to contact the league to set up a scheduled meeting.



    Divisions of Play

    50/70 Intermediate Division

    Age: Little League 13

    Location: Donovan field (Spring Township) 1309 Blanchard Street Bellefonte, PA 16823

    Number of games: around 15 regular season

    Number of practices: Determined by Managers

    Travel: Yes

    Postseason: Yes

    Tournaments: Yes

    Other information:This division offers a transition for players between the standard Little League field size (46-foot pitching distance and 60-foot base paths) and the Junior/Senior/Big League field size (60-foot, 6-inch pitching distance and 90-foot base paths). This division is open to all players Little League age 13 within the Bellefonte and Nittany Valley Little League boundaries. If Your not within these boundaries and your League does not have an Intermediate division please contact the league you may be eligible to register with our league.

     

    Major League

    Age: Little League 9-12* **

    Location: Webster field (one and two) 735 N. Penn Street Bellefonte, PA 16823

    Number of games: 15-20 regular season

    Number of practices: Determined by Managers Typically 3-4 times a week

    Travel: Some for Regular season, the majority of games played are at Webster Fields

    Postseason: Yes

    Tournaments: Yes

    Other information: Is for children Little League 9 to 12 years old and is considered a highly competitive division. Managers draft players based upon tryouts and their individual team needs. Players that compete in the Major League can sign up to be considered for post-season play in the Little League International tournament.

     

    *All players Little League age 12 must play in the Major division.

    ** Players Little League 9&10 had to play one year of player pitch to be considered Major League eligible.



    Minor League Division

    Age: Little League 8*-11

    Location: Webster field (one and two) 735 N. Penn Street Bellefonte, PA 16823

    Number of games: around 15  regular season

    Number of practices: Determined by Managers Typically 3 times a week

    Travel: Yes

    Postseason: Possible

    Tournaments: Possible

    Other information: Considered a developmental divisions with increasing level of competitive play. Minor League is a 8* to 11 league with the introduction to live pitching. Coaches emphasis upon player instruction and development. This is also considered a semi competitive division but more competitive than Pee Wee.

     

    *Players Little League 8 must play one year of player pitch to be considered Major League eligible as Little League 9.

     

    Pee Wee Division

    Age: Little League 6*-8**

    Location: Webster field (one and two) 735 N. Penn Street Bellefonte, PA 16823

    Number of games: around 15 regular season

    Number of practices: Determined by Managers Typically 3 times a week

    Travel: Yes

    Postseason: Yes

    Tournaments: Yes

    Other information: Pee Wee ages are 7 and 8 and is a coach pitch league, with an emphasis upon player instruction and development. This is a semi competitive division.

     

    *Players Little League 6 must have played one year of Tball to be PeeWee eligible.

    **Players Little League 8 that play in the Pee Wee division will not be eligible when they are Little League 9 for the Major’s draft

     

    T-Ball

    Age: Little League 5-6*

    Location: Webster field (one and two) 735 N. Penn Street Bellefonte, PA 16823

    Number of games: around 10 regular season

    Number of practices: Determined by Managers Typically 1 or 2 times a week

    Travel: Yes

    Postseason: No

    Tournaments: No

    Other information:T-Ball is an introductory Division for children ages 5 to 6 who are new to the game of baseball. T-Ball is NOT intended to be competitive but fun and instructive.

     

    *Players Little League 6 with one year of tball experience may move to the PeeWee division.

     

    T-Ball Clinic

    Age: Little League 4

    Location: Benner Township

    Number of games: NA

    Number of practices: Determined by the director. Typically 3-5 Saturdays

    Travel: No

    Postseason: No

    Tournaments: No

    Other information:T-Ball Clinic is an introductory Division for children age 4 who are new to the game of baseball. Depending on the number of 4 year olds registering the clinic will hold 3-5 instructional fun sessions sometime mid-April and ending around the beginning of May. During open registration the fee has been drop so the league can determine if there is enough 4 year olds to hold the clinic. A nominal fee will be set up to cover a hat and a shirt for all clinic participants. All families that sign up for the clinic will be notified on time and place or if the clinic had been canceled as soon as the league has volunteers and knows the number of kids participating.

     



    Player Evaluations

    Who It is recommended for all players who will be 9*, 10*, 11 or 12 years old and are NOT on a Bellefonte Little League Major’s team to participate and complete the evaluation program.

     

    * Players Little League 9&10 had to play one year of player pitch to be considered Major League eligible.

     

    When Player Evaluations are normally scheduled for two weekends in Late January early February with a makeup day scheduled if inclement weather cancels the scheduled times. Players should show up 15-10 minutes before the session to register and warm up. Evaluation sessions usually last 1-2 hours, but may be shorter or longer based upon the number in attendance.

     

    Where The League normally holds the evaluations at the Bellefonte High School depending on availability and equipment. We also use other sports facilities around the area including GoodSports and Bellefonte Academy. Times and location will be available at registration. All players 9-12 must be evaluated to be eligible for the major division play.

     

    What will my child need? Baseball mitt, Sneakers (NO SPIKES), we also suggest a ball hat. Bats and batting helmets are supplied, you are permitted to bring your own as long as the bats are Little League compliant and helmets have a full facemask attached.

     

    What happens at the Evaluations? Every player has the opportunity to take batting practice. Each player also displays their defensive skills by fielding ground balls and catching fly balls. Playing catch and interaction with other players and coaches. There is also the opportunity to pitch and catch for those interested. Players should bring any gear they wish to use with them.  Parents may volunteer to help at the Evaluations by indicating their interest during the registration process. Additional parent volunteers may also be solicited during the Evaluation session.

     

    Who is supervising the evaluation? The Minor League President organizing the evaluations. Major league coaches and managers are on hand to evaluate each player. Other volunteers from the league will be in attendance. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the league or inquire at the league's registration.

     

    What are the Managers and Coaches doing? The Managers and Coaches are watching your player at the Evaluations and scoring the players on both the performance demonstrated at the Evaluations as well as fundamental skills demonstrated. The managers are also watching a player's hustle and attitude during the Evaluations. They will utilize the list of players and scores when drafting players onto their teams.

     

    What Team am I on?

    Registered players League Ages 9-12 should hear what team they are on by mid-Feb. If you have not heard by the end of February or beginning of March, please contact the league to find out about your team. Occasionally mistakes happen and when they do we will try and correct them as soon as possible. Please be patient - every player who registers will be placed on a team.

     

    Registered players League Ages 5-8 - Tee Ball, and PeeWee teams are formed after the draft is completed. You should hear what team you are on by Mid-March. If you have not heard by then please contact the league. Occasionally mistakes happen and when they do we will try and correct them as soon as possible. Please be patient - every player who registers will be placed on a team.

     

    4 year old TeeBall Clinic should hear information on the clinic by the end of March and before the league’s opening ceremonies the first Saturday in April.
